The first Apple event of the year is nearly upon us. We’re expecting Apple to announce an array of new hardware/ software as well as some updates to existing product lines.
What time does the event start?
The event is taking place at the Apple campus over in Cupertino, California at 10am PDT.
That means that in the UK, the event will kick off at 5pm GMT, you can watch it live here: Apple Events March 2016
What products are Apple announcing this afternoon?
We’ve seen various products leak in the run up to this years event. Let’s remind ourselves of everything that’s surfaced in the run up to the event:
The iPhone 5S is to get an upgrade at today’s event. It will get a new name ‘iPhone SE’, as well as various other internal upgrades. It’s unclear whether the exterior will change but we’re expecting it to be available in rose gold, silver, space grey and gold.
Expect it to have a 4″ screen, 12MP camera, 4K video and the A9 chip found in the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The internal upgrades will now mean that the iPhone SE will have ‘always on Siri’ and NFC capabilities for Apply Pay
One of the big questions from many of the Apple forums is if Apple are going to drop the 16GB phone and replace it with a 32GB entry level device.
iPad Pro 9.7″
We’re expecting the iPad Air to be updated later today as the ‘iPad Pro’.
This extends the ‘iPad Pro’ range and will ultimately mean that the accessories launched with the larger 12.9″ tablet will be compatible with the smaller 9.7″ version.
Specs are rumoured to include the A9X processor, 12mp rear-facing camera with 4K video recording and a brighter display.
The iPad Air 2 will be sold alongside the iPad Pro range as the entry level 9.7″ tablet and will be offered in a range of colours and 16GB of internal flash storage.
Apple Watch Bands
Apple Watch owners will be pleased to hear that Apple will be announcing various new colourways and designs of the Apple Watch Bands.
Having release 6 beta versions already, Apple are expected to launch the final version of iOS 9.3 later today, which will bring new features such as ‘blue light reduction’ which is said to reduce the strain on your eyes in dark environments.
Other features include new additions to Apple CarPlay, fingerprint ID functionality in the ‘Notes’ app amongst other small upgrades.
Although not much information has been leaked, rumours suggest that an upgrade to iTunes is imminent.
Apple have mentioned in interviews that they are trying to improve the integration of Apple Music within iTunes so we’re expecting an announcement later today.
Like with iOS 9.3, there have been various beta versions of tvOS 9.2 being seeded to developers.
If you’re running a 4th gen Apple TV then this software update will see the inclusions of ‘Folders’ for apps, Bluetooth keyboard support, a Podcasts app.
Expect an announcement later today on tvOS 9.2.
