Now that Google Home has finally landed here at BT Shop we thought we’d run you through the 10 key features we’ve been enjoying whilst trialing the hands-free speaker in our homes.
1. Hands-free speaker
Once you’ve set the device up using your smartphone, Google Home is a great hands-free speaker that learns and helps you in your daily life.
Using only your voice, you can control compatible devices around your home by using the command ‘OK Google, *insert command here*’. We’ve listed our top commands below so you can test it for yourself!
2. Multiple user support
Google Home supports multiple user support which is perfect for busy households. Teach your device to recognise multiple voices for a more personal experience.
Individual users can tap into their favourite music service to hear personal playlists or get personalised answers to questions such as ‘Is my flight delayed?’ or ‘what does my commute to work look like?’
Google Home can recognise up to 6 individual users.
3. Get answers from Google
With Google Home the power of Google is on the tip of your tongue. Get real time hands free answers so you can focus on what you’re doing. Or have fun with some trivia or a game from the Google Assistant.
4. Listen to your music
Google Home isn’t just a hands-free assistant, the built-in speakers also pack a pretty powerful punch and work with your favourite streaming services (Spotify, Google Music and TuneIn).
Ask Google to play your favourite playlist on Spotify, or why not control speakers around your home using Chromecast Audio devices?
5. Manage your everyday tasks
Do you lead a busy life and get frustrated when having to manually look through your calendar. Google Home will read your planned day back to you when you ask it. You can also add things to your diary.
Google Home will acknowledge requests such as ‘Add dinner with Alex tomorrow at 6pm to my calendar’ or ‘set an alarm for 7am tomorrow morning’.
6. Control your home
Google Home works seamlessly with some of the leading smart product manufacturers. Nest, Philips Hue, LIFX, TP-Link, WEMO and many others will work with the Google Home ecosystem so you can ask it to do things such as ‘set the thermostat to 21 degrees’ or ‘turn the kitchen lights on’.
7. Works with Chromecast
If you have Chromecast devices plugged into your TVs or speakers you can use Google Home to do tasks such as ‘play “Extras” from Netflix on my TV’ or ‘play the new Drake album on Spotify from my Kitchen speakers’.
8. Style your home
Not happy with the standard ‘Silver, Metal’ finish on your Google Home? You can now choose from a selection of different colours/ styles to match your home.
