A Guide to The BT Home Hub 5

All BT broadband packages come with a complimentary BT Home Hub router to connect your devices to the internet. The latest model is the Home Hub 5 which is arguably one of the best routers available. So here’s what you need to know.

If you’re an existing BT Infinity customer, simply renew your existing contract and you’ll be given a discounted price for the Home Hub 5. If you switch providers and sign up for the BT Infinity fibre optic broadband package, you’ll be entitled to a free Home Hub 5 as part of the deal. And of course, you can also buy it outright for £129. Whichever route you choose, your shiny new router will be sent to you in a box small enough to fit through your letterbox – so you’re ready to get started right away.

• Faster wireless connection: While the new Home Hub 5 uses the same dual band wireless system as the previous model, it also provides a much faster wireless connection. That’s because it uses 802.11ac wireless technology, making it one of the speediest routers available.
• It looks good: Boasting no external antennae and clean lines, the Home Hub 5 is one of the lightest and sleekest models around.
• LAN ports provide speeds of up to 1000mbps: The four LAN ports on the back of the router offer super-fast speeds of up to 1000mbps, making it compatible with the BT Infinity packages’ high download speeds as well as the slightly slower speeds of the more basic broadband deals – enabling you to keep the same router should you ever decide to downgrade.

• Choose a location for your router (ideally high up where it is not blocked by anything).
• Connect the power cable to the respective port and the broadband cable to the white DSL port then wait until you see the lights change to blue.
• Now you can connect to the internet. Just hold down the Wireless WPS button (found on the top of the router).
• For a wired connection, connect an Ethernet cable from your device to one of the yellow LAN ports (found on the back of the router). Although wired connections can be faster than wireless, they’re not always convenient so choose the option that best suits your needs.
