Smartwatches are becoming more popular as they become more accessible, affordable, and accurate in their data. Whether you’re looking to buy one for a friend or family member, upgrade, or first-time buy, I’ve got you covered.

New year’s resolution? Getting fit for spring? Achieving the summer body of your dreams? Fitness trackers can help you on your wellness journey.

I got my hands on the Xiaomi Redmi Watch Lite 2, so you can expect a full, honest, detailed review of my thoughts over the period of one week. Tracking activities such as hiking, weightlifting, running, and everything in between. By the end of this you’ll either want to buy one or you’ll feel inspired – I’ll take either one as a win.

High resolution display

Firstly, let’s talk about all the cool watch face designs that come with this watch. It’s colourful, bright (though you can adjust how bright) and super detailed. Plus, and here’s the fun bit, with over 100 designs, including a little astronaut, the moon, a deer forest, (three of my favs) or even spider-man, you are sure to get a watch face that compliments your personality, mood, or outfit. The touch control also works seamlessly, I have no complaints.

Let’s Get Fit

When it comes to exercise, I keep it pretty simple. I go to the gym. I run. Or I love a good walk on a nice day. And every now and then I might get the badminton racket out. You don’t have to be a serious fitness fanatic to gain from the features this watch has to offer.

Whether you just want to move your body after being sat at a desk all day, or you’re serious about the exercise you do, this watch has all the features you could possibly need. With 17 professional modes such as HIIT, yoga, badminton and 100 extended workouts, such as, burpees and dumbbells, you can rest assured your favourite exercise is waiting for you to press start.

I personally loved that the watch was able to recognise and record my workouts. Not a single calorie went unnoticed, my heart rate was constantly being monitored, and I could see my progress improve. And, I did have a moment when I thought the battery may not make it to the gym, so quickly popped it on charge while I got my gym set on, filled my water bottle up and tied my shoes – before I knew it, it was practically on 100%. Talk about quick charging.

For the swimmers, fear not. The Redmi Watch is 50 metres water resistant. So, you can swim for however many lengths you would like. And though I didn’t wear it in the pool, I wore it in the shower and can confirm it’s still in tip-top condition.

And when you’re just sitting at your desk all day – you get little buzzing reminders to get moving. That could include a stretch, or a quick walk around. Nothing too intense.

Health Management

Not only is our physical health important, but so is our mental health. From the stress management feature to tracking my menstrual cycle. Society is finding work-life balance much more vital in their day-to-day lives. We’re realising that we work to live, not live to work. And with what’s happened in the last couple years, stress management has become a necessity in our lives. Receiving a little buzz when your stress starts to increase and being able to see the pattern of your stress on a chart, alongside your cycle, allows for you to become a lot more in-tune with your mental health. Which I personally love.

On the topic of stress, I love the simplest of features, like the breathing feature where you can set up to 5-minutes of focused breathing. You can pick from slow, moderate, or fast paced. I’m quite an anxious person and often try to focus on my breathing but get lost in my thoughts or lose my pace. With this feature, it was perfect at keeping me attentive in moments when I needed to.

Time for some sleep

I love my sleep. I literally calculate what time I’m about to go to sleep and what time I’ll wake up and figure out (hope) that I get my 8 hours. It’s vital for my everyday functioning. So being able to have my sleep monitored and get a detailed report in the morning of whether I was in a deep sleep, light sleep or in REM, was very intriguing. I will note though, make sure you put your watch on ‘Do Not Disturb’ when heading to sleep. Even if you have apps on time limits, like mine, your watch still receives the notifications. So last night, I woke up around 3am to my wrist buzzing. Who was messaging me at 3am? I have no clue.

Other fun features

I wanted to dedicate a little section to the features I believe deserve a shout out. Firstly, getting notifications on your watch. When you’re washing up, and your hands are wet, or when your hands are covered in shortbread mix, when your mid-run, or any other time when you can’t get straight to your phone. Seeing your notifications on your wrist means that anything emergency-related you can see immediately. Plus, I just love saving taking your phone out your pocket or bag to realise the person who texted you was only the bank.

Being able to change my music from my wrist was a fun feature. Being at the gym and not having to get off the machine or lean over to my phone just to change the song that wasn’t giving the right vibes was very handy.

And last, but not least, the ‘Find my phone’ feature. What a wonderful feature that is. It’s self-explanatory, you lose your phone, for example behind the sofa, and you can just get your watch to send a signal that means it sets off an alarm – ringing away as you hunt for it. The key here though, is you must have your phone on loud, or at least vibration. Otherwise, it’ll just be silent unfortunately. But saves asking a family member to ring it.

Final Thoughts

I’m 50/50 when it comes to going to the gym and lying on the sofa binge-watching Queer Eye. It really depends on my mood. And being completely honest, I had my doubts about having a smart watch. Tracking steps and calories isn’t always good for mental health. However, I found it wasn’t pressurising to achieve the daily steps or ideal calories, unlike some smart watches which buzz if you haven’t achieved your goals or make your stats the main watch face. I’m quite content looking at my little astronaut. Overall, I have found the smart watch a beautiful addition to my day-to-day life. I love that I can track my workouts, manage my breathing, change my music, and see my notifications. Plus, the charging life lasts a lifetime. Honestly, I’m not sure what this watch is missing… I’ll give it a think and update you. But whether you’re thinking of a smart watch solely for fitness purposes or because you want to keep track of your day-to-day life, this watch is definitely worth it! And for the price…bargain!
